Udio arrived in 2024 as the main challenger to Suno, and its reputation was built on sound quality. Tracks generated in Udio often have cleaner mixes, more convincing vocals, and a wider stereo image than competing tools, and it handles genres that other generators flatten into generic pop surprisingly well. Where Suno tends to hand you a finished song in one shot, Udio works in shorter clips that you extend, rearrange, and regenerate, which gives you much more say over where a song goes.

That control is both its strength and its main hurdle. Building a complete track means generating a starting section, extending it forward or backward, and using inpainting to redo a weak chorus or a bad lyric. Musicians and producers tend to enjoy this because it feels closer to arranging than to rolling dice. Casual users often find it slower than Suno, and output quality varies more between generations, so expect to throw away a few attempts before you land on something you like.

The bigger caveat is licensing. After Udio reached a licensing agreement with Universal Music Group in late 2025, the platform restricted downloads and shifted toward a more closed, licensed model. That makes it less attractive if your goal is to export tracks for YouTube videos, podcasts, or commercial projects, so check the current terms before you build a workflow around it. As a creative sandbox with excellent audio quality, Udio is still one of the best AI music tools available. For simple, fast, exportable songs, Suno remains the more practical pick.
